day seventeen

I've been reading essays for class on the bus, and most of them are feminist essays about modernism and if there were or could have been modernist women painters, where Morisot and Cassat fit in to modernist painting, etc. They're good essays, but unfortunately I can only read so many at once. They all seem to reiterate the same points as if they are what the article has added to the discussion, when I think some of the bits of the articles that are less emphasized or reiterated are more interesting and new, compared to everyhting else I read. I also kind of wish the authors of the articles would write in a more direct way, I guess -- the articles I'm reading seem to sort of preach, instead of just say what they want to say without making a lot of assumptions about the reader. Also, unfortunately, you get into the "so what if this painting was by a man" line of thought, which doesn't make much (if any) sense for Morisot and Cassat because it would've been difficult if not impossible for men to have the same relationship with what's going on in the pictures to let him paint them.

Why is it that if I open picasa after I save my file, it takes forever for it to show up in picasa, even if i add the file expressly? It's really irritating. I keep wanting to do art for this that's a little bit more interesting. I have tons of art feeds that I'm reading right now and it's that interesting mix of inspiring and depressing, as always.

Mm, sleep.
